PolyVista Awarded Patent
for Combination of Techniques and Practices in Business
Information Analytics.
PolyVista, Inc., a leading provider of Business Information
Analytics announced today that it has been awarded US
Patent 6,490,577 entitled "Search engine with user activity
memory," a core technology within its business information
analysis product, PolyVista Discovery software.
The newly granted patent covers a search engine that utilizes
both record based data and user activity data to develop,
update, and refine ranking protocols and to identify words
and phrases that give rise to search ambiguity so that
the engine can interact with the user to better respond
to user queries and enhance data acquisition from databases,
intranets, and internets.
"When we built our flagship product Discovery, we saw
a need to provide business information consumers with
a way to analyze both numeric (structured) and textual
(unstructured) data and be guided to new insights hidden
in that data. Until PolyVista's Discovery software, the
complexity of the currently available data and text mining
products had separated the data from the business people
most capable of understanding the unforeseen anomalies
and insights hidden in their data. Most businesses collect
large amounts of textual data from their customers, technicians,
and service and call centers yet they seldom receive much
value from that information. The complexity and difficulty
of extracting value from their text, much less integrating
it with their numeric data, was a daunting task. PolyVista
has introduced a solution that enables business users
to get real value from that data and we have provided
a way to really explore their data for hidden nuggets
of information. We felt it was important to help information
consumers extract greater value from their data by providing
them with an environment that supports reporting, ad hoc
analysis, and can guide them to new and unforeseen insights
automatically. The challenge and opportunity is to go
to the next level of business analysis and understand
that we don't know all the questions. As technologies
like PolyVista are placed in the hands of information
consumers we will all improve our ability to ask the right
questions," said Shahbaz Anwar CEO and founder of PolyVista.
"The granting of this patent validates our technology
leadership, reflects our history of innovation, and protects
our intellectual property."
