Why Did Cuisinart Recall 8 Million Food Processors?
American home appliance brand Cuisinart last month recalled 8 million food processors, a move that could affect the business, its brand reputation and its revenues for years to come.
ConsumerSafety.org reported Cuisinart issued the product recall after it discovered the riveted blade on its food processors could crack over time. Thus, small, metal pieces of the blade could break off into food and pose a laceration hazard to consumers, according to Cuisinart.
Cuisinart noted it received at least 69 reports of consumers who found broken pieces of the riveted blade in processed food. Also, the company pointed out it received 30 reports of mouth lacerations or tooth injuries associated with the product failure.
Furthermore, Cuisinart is urging consumers who own one of the food processor models that has a defective riveted blade to stop using the product immediately. The company noted it will supply a free replacement blade to all affected consumers.
What Does the Product Recall Mean for Cuisinart?
Cuisinart represents a leading provider of home appliances, but the recent product recall could cause long-lasting damage.
The defective riveted blade on Cuisinart food processors puts consumers in danger. Therefore, some consumers may choose other home appliance brands over Cuisinart in the future due to the fact that Cuisinart released food processors with a defective riveted blade.
In addition, Cuisinart likely will need to allocate significant time and resources to repair and/or replace the defective riveted blade on its food processors. Cuisinart's product replacement and warranty costs may rise substantially in the near future, which could put a major dent in the business' bottom line.
Let's not forget about the potential fines and penalties that Cuisinart may face, either. If the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or various corporate agencies determine that Cuisinart knowingly put consumers at risk, the business may receive quality and safety violations.
